In late July I published my first posting to this site - my fourth book, Water for Thought (for Eric Hiller at, printed by Colin McPhee, Medway, England). And now, since the July 15 reading at the Long Beach Civic Center, I have met many wonderful readers, a few of whom I will be posting about on the site. In addition, I just received my most recent copy of Wilderness magazine, a quarterly publication of the North American Lake Associations (one example of its 26 members). Among the many wonderful features are wonderful articles by Charles Thomson about Tana River Triangle, Alaska; by Don West (of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game), about the importance of caribou for the Denali National Park and Preserve and for Russia; and much more. Wild salmon by Liz McKinley about the Bristol Bay region of Alaska; and a special report by Andy Wirthlin, who has been in the great northern wilderness of the Yukon for many years, on the land health of that area. In another section of the magazine is a rather great article titled "The First Pioneer," about a woman named Ellen Corman who wrote about her life in the Yukon in the early 20th century. (See the Bibliography for additional articles and books by Corman.) For those who would like to actually be able to read Wilderness magazine, I have decided that from now on I will only permit one person to purchase one (1) magazine a year, and that he/she must sign a contract agreeing to give me all the profits if the magazine is sold.
